Exercise physiology appointments go beyond just prescribing exercises for you. We Pride ourselves on building relationships and spending time putting together and delivering specific treatment plans. Here is what you can expect at your initial appointment with us.
Prior to your first appointment with us we will ask you to fill in some screening forms, so we have a general understanding of why you have come to see us and your current health. In your initial appointment we will then go into more detail about current and prior health conditions and any injuries or surgeries you have had.
As we are women’s health exercise physiologists, we will ask in detail about current or prior pregnancy, your labour and birth experiences and current or prior postpartum experiences & symptoms. We may also ask about your cycle and any symptoms as well as questions about your pelvic floor health.
Lastly, we will discuss current and prior physical activity levels, your activity likes & dislikes and goals you wish to achieve.
We will then take you through a movement assessment. Dependant on your symptoms and goals we look at factors such as: posture and gait, breathing mechanics, rib positioning & deep core engagement, abdominal separation, lifting mechanics, range of movement at different joints, strength.
We often take videos or photos of these assessments to allow us to watch back & pick up postural or movement imbalances as well as to monitor change and improvement throughout your treatment.
